When Should You Send Wedding Invitations in the UK?

One of the most common questions couples ask during wedding planning is- when should we send our wedding invitations? While every wedding is different, I advise to send invitations out 6-9 months in advance, to allow enough time for guests to respond and to chase any guests who have not yet confirmed. This also allows time if you would like to invite other people to attend, if you have places available.

If you're planning a destination wedding, a bank holiday weekend celebration or have lots of guests travelling from further afield, it's worth giving everyone a little extra notice to make arrangements, to RSVP and to get the date into diaries!

9-12 months before

If you're planning a destination wedding, have chosen a peak summer date or have lots of guests travelling, consider sending save the dates during this period to give everyone plenty of notice.

6- 9 Months before

This is the ideal time to send your wedding invitations. Sending invitations earlier gives guests lots of time to arrange travel, accommodation, childcare and annual leave if needed! It's particularly helpful for summer weddings, bank holiday weekends and weddings with a large number of guests who need to travel.

3-6 Months before

As RSVPs begin to arrive, you can focus on the finer wedding day details. This is a great time to order your on the day wedding stationery, such as order of service booklets, his and her vow booklets, welcome signs, table plans, table numbers, guest place names, menus and any small signs. Having these details organised early helps everything come together smoothly as your wedding day approaches.
